Freshman Year Village consists of three modern dormitories of 6-story height, totaling approximately 312,000 sq ft. Constructed in design-build under a P3 arrangement, the flagship Hilltopper Hall suffered from brick veneer movement leading to an architectural assessment. Brown + Kubican consulted under that architectural assessment, then led subsequent life-safety investigation into the building structures, egress and fire-ratings, and emergency fire protection systems for Hilltopper, Regents, and Normal Halls. All investigated halls have critical life-safety deficiencies requiring emergency remediation.
Brown + Kubican is Prime Professional leading a team of architect, MEP engineer, estimators, and other specialty consultants on this remediation project. Work includes reinforcement of major structural elements, reconstruction of lateral-force-resisting systems, reinforcing and redetailing of egress stairs, reconstruction of fire-ratings and stone-veneers, installation of fire dampers, and other life-safety remediations. Fast-track design and documentation of Hilltopper Hall has since been paused, in favor of complete demolition (which is documented and administered by Brown + Kubican due to the critical placement in the heart of campus).
