A new soccer and softball complex at Western Kentucky University. This state-of-the-art facility serves as the shared home for the university’s soccer and softball programs, enhancing the student-athlete experience while supporting recruitment, training, and program growth. Features include dedicated team locker rooms, coaches’ offices, meeting and classroom spaces, athletic training and nutrition areas, indoor training turf, batting cages, and support spaces designed to meet the operational needs of both programs. Located adjacent to the existing competition venues, the complex provides a centralized athletics hub that strengthens team operations and creates a modern game-day environment for student-athletes, coaches, and staff.
The facility utilizes a hybrid structural system consisting of a pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) training wing and a load-bearing masonry locker room and office wing. The locker room and office areas are framed with reinforced CMU bearing walls supporting open-web steel joists and metal roof deck, while the training wing utilizes a PEMB system to provide large, open-span space. Both structures are supported on shallow concrete foundations, including continuous strip footings beneath the masonry bearing walls.
