A new 7-story patient tower expansion for the University of Louisville Hospital. This building was designed for 66,000 square feet, 3-story future addition allowing for a total of 10-stories plus a basement. The upgrade to UofL Health offers more than 360 beds/private rooms, 20 operating rooms, 24 bed observation unit, new lobby, waiting area, gift shop, and coffee shop. The new tower will alleviate capacity constraints and enhanced access to UofL Hospital’s specialized care, advanced academic research, and innovative treatments.

The structural system is comprised of a steel superstructure with composite slab system, and concrete shear walls. The building is founded on auger-cast pile foundations. The project’s success depended on extensive pre-construction coordination with existing site utilities and strategic planning with the Construction Manager. Early issuance of bid packages for foundations and structural steel helped expedite the overall construction schedule.
