A 5-story building for the University of Kentucky. This facility will serve as the administrative headquarters for the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food, and Environment (CAFE). Features will include a large teaching kitchen, dining area, lobby, classrooms, student lounge, offices, and conference rooms.
The new facility replaces the existing one, while preserving the early 1900’s historic facade which will be re-supported by the new structure. Founded on a combination of rock bearing footings and deep foundations, the superstructure is predominantly steel framed with composite floor deck. A tall loggia is featured on the north side of the building. A “floating” stair tower with architectural exposed structural steel is located on the southeast corner. The lateral system consists of steel moment frames to keep maximum floor space flexibility.
