The Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center for the Louisville Urban League is intended to be a state-of-the-art indoor 21 meter hydraulically banked oval track complete with long jump, pole vault, throwing cage, and many other types of sports equipment. It is also designed to serve as a multi-purpose area for events such as concerts and community involvement.

To house the world-class indoor sporting equipment a 267 ft wide clear span Pre-Engineered Metal Building (PEMB) structure was used. The PEMB is a delegated designed by the Contractor to the PEMB manufacturer.  BK faced a challenging foundation design for the long clear span moment frame of the PEMB due to the recessed oval track. The PEMB was founded on friction-resistant strip footings over ram aggregate piers.  In addition to the PEMB foundation, BK designed the 11,000 sq ft South Wing building that abuts the PEMB. The South Wing structure is braced with steel braced frames and is founded on spread footings over ram aggregate piers.

Through transforming a brownfield site in West Louisville, this facility will become a keystone in the community for generations to come that BK is proud to be a part of.
