The new Martin County High School consisted of 2 stories with distinct wings for gymnasium and auditorium, cafeteria and library, area technology center, and classroom wings.  The facility was situated into a cut hillside with some extremities supported on deep foundations through spoil fill. The facility predominantly utilizes loadbearing masonry bearing walls with steel joists at floor and roof, concrete slab on steel form deck, and concrete slab on grade.  The structure was laid out for efficiency with floor joists on approximately 32” centers and roof joists at 72” centers.

The facility is divided into three buildings with fire walls.  Long span joists and joist girders were used at the gymnasium (with flat bottom chords for ease of attachments).  Custom tube trusses with long span roof deck were used over main entry and gymnasium lobbies. The structural drawings provided fully coordinated and dimensioned plans and fully detailed structure, including the fire walls.
