The smokestack demolition project involved the deconstruction of the campus smokestack. Originally conceived as a rapid-turnaround project in mid-2023, the schedule was extended at BK’s request to allow careful coordination with adjacent campus activities and projects. The project’s close proximity to the Ramsey Heat Plant project required certain work to be shifted for cost efficiencies, with deconstruction tentatively scheduled for Summer 2025. Preliminary survey and fieldwork were completed in Spring 2024, and design documentation
was finalized, with only a few scope confirmations pending. Final design documentation was expected before Thanksgiving 2024, with the project slated for bid in Spring 2025. The demolition was planned for Summer 2025 while students were away, ensuring both safety and minimal disruption. The extended schedule reflected a deliberate approach to coordination, safety, and cost-effective project delivery.
