The project included a full interior renovation and exterior concrete façade restoration. The revitalized building now accommodates 584 students and features updated dorm rooms, restrooms, kitchen, lobby, lounge areas, conference room, offices, recreation and media rooms, and laundry facilities - bringing modern amenities and improved comfort.

Originally constructed between 1967 and 1968, Keene Hall recently underwent a transformative renovation to improve campus safety and enhance the residential experience for students. Our team was initially engaged by Eastern Kentucky University in 2013 to perform a condition assessment for the 17-story facility. This early work laid the foundation for the comprehensive renovation completed in the years that followed.

Structural work involved modifying the existing concrete structure to serve the updated mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. This work encompassed creating new duct and pipe penetrations in existing floor slabs, reinforcing existing structures to support new mechanical units, sealing the existing floor openings, reconstructing the slabs of mechanical rooms, and providing an exterior foundation pad for new cooling towers.
Additionally, the structural work supported architectural renovations by creating openings in load-bearing walls and repairing exterior concrete surfaces.
