The new Bullitt County Central Library in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, is designed as a dynamic community hub offering a variety of spaces for learning, reading, studying, meeting, and social interaction. The library accommodates visitors of all ages with quiet reading areas, collaborative study zones, technology labs, meeting rooms, maker spaces, and informal spaces for play and exploration. Courtyard gardens bring natural light and outdoor engagement into the facility, creating inviting environments that encourage lingering, creativity, and connection with the community. Sustainability is woven into the design through features such as rooftop solar panels.
The single‑story steel-framed building is organized around a highly repetitive fame layout for an economical structure. This grid is rotated relative to the interior layout, producing a sense of angularity and dynamic spatial relationships. Steel braced frames with exposed cast steel connections are expressed as part of the architectural intent, integrating structure and design.
